Friday 22nd August - CarNoVal

London Friday Night Skate

Pending

On Friday Night we won't be joining the Notting Hill Carnival, but the Friday Night CarNoVal going to North-East to Highbury and Islington.
You're welcome to road test your Costume for Monday, though!
The skate is downhill all the way (from half time), with some quite sharpish downhills – don't even think about it if you can’t control your speed on a slope! It should be a lively start to the Bank Holiday weekend, and will prepare you perfectly for the Notting Hill Carnival Skate (see serpentineroad.com for details).

Friday 15th August - Clapham Old Town, new style

Last Friday Roggie took the London Friday Night Skate on a new route to Clapham. Well, it was fairly new. Gone was the famous back passage and almost all of the side roads. But he still managed to fit in a few old favourites, like the run south from Albert Bridge, and the golden mile sprint along Clapham Common North Side. The run down Stewart's Road was definitely new though, and seemed a popular addition. Eight out of ten skaters (that expressed a preference) said their cats preferred it. Purrfect! Music was mixed by “A Toon Too Far”, powered by PeterC on Firebrox, the LFNS music bike, recently rebuilt and refitted, ever faithful, ever sure. Keep left. One love. Out.

Sunday 10th August - Take me to the riviera

...'cos the weather sucks here. Err, the last time we tried this route there was too much water, even for our friendly Penguins. Anyhow, never ever daunted, we'll keep trying. Starting with a fabulous low-speed downhill along Exhibition Road, the route continues south to Wandsworth Bridge. From there we take a beautiful waterfront stroll along the south bank to Battersea. Don't miss it, unless you're a fish. In which case, watch out for the Penguins. As our route also passes along the Thames Path, please also keep a respectful eye out for pedestrians and cyclists. Half time is near Wandsworth Bridge, nearest tube is Parson Green, nearest overground Wandsworth Town.

Friday 8th August - Magical Mystery Tour

We beatled at high speed around town. It was great, come again...

Sunday 3rd August - Take me to the river (Route)

Friday 1st August - 0% inspiration, 100% perspiration

FRIDAY's Lead Marshal has been too busy fiddling with Google Maps to think of anything witty or interesting to say about this week's skate. Arguably, this is a good thing. Anyway, it goes to Finsbury and Hoxton before trying the new smooth surface round the back of Liverpool St station. According to our testing so far, this is probably the only smooth road anywhere in E1, so enjoy it.

Sunday 27th July - Mini Best Of London (BOL)

For some while now we have run BOL skates on a Friday night, which take in a lot of tourist sites and are run at one speed to encourage new LFNS skaters. We thought we would try the same idea to the Sunday Stroll. This week Alan is taking us round many of the most famous bits of London at a sedate pace to encourage new skaters to try street skating. Go on, you might like it!

Friday 25th July - Holely unthemed

The LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE's route this week is completely unthemed, and was planned by skating around on Tuesday night to see which roads have nice new tarmac and which have unexpected great big holes in them. For the most part we are favouring the former and avoiding the latter.

Kensington Church St features in the second half: it's not the longest or the steepest hill we've ever skated, but nevertheless calls for a reminder that to participate in the LFNS you must be able to stop on a downhill without the aid of other skaters, buses, pedestrians or lamp posts.

Sunday 20th July - Parsons Green with added Wally

This week sees the debut of a new Lead Marshal, Richard. There is something of an Eco/Green theme as he is taking us west to Parsons Green via Walham Green and returning through the leafy glades of Earls Court and Northend Road.

Friday 18th July - Magical Mystery Tour (Route)

Sunday 13th July - Marylebone

A combination of a part of Friday's route (this should be freshly in everybody's memory) with a well-trodden parts of Strolls long gone (deeply etched into the memory of marshals involved, though). If Friday is the Robert the Bruce skate, this must be the Brucie Bonus.

Sunday 24th August - It's a Flat Flat World

One Way Stroll

Pending

As it was recently reported in the News – the Flat World Society has put forward scientific proof that the Earth is flat.
To celebrate this break-through we have decided to take everybody on a (flat) ONE-WAY STROLL to (flat) Hampstead Heath, where we'll get a lovely look-out over (flat) London from the bottom of Parliament Hill.
One-way means that we’re not coming back, so you’ll need shoes and travel money. Bring nice clothes and a posh accent or you might be refused admission at Hampstead Immigration.
The end point is conveniently close to both branches of the North London Line for those who want to go to East or West London, for everybody else the Northern Line is just a hop and a skip away.

The One Way Stroll Is Back

Back by popular demand, One way destination Strolls begin this Sunday where we take you alll the way out East to Victoria Park. See some of last years Highlights to wet your appetite.

Stroll on film

Our friends from FSTarragona recently attended a Sunday Stroll and took some video footage. They've kindly allowed us to post the video here.

EasterSkate

A Big Belated Thank you to all of you who came and supported us on the Easterskate. We managed to run the Bunny Stroll eventually and much fun was had. An official video is being painstakingly editted to bring you not one, not two, not three, but four video angles and thumping soundtrack.

We're on Facebook

Over 250 of you have already started using our application. If you're an avid Facebook user and you want to keep up to date with the status of the coming skates each week then try out the new Facebook LFNS Skate Updates App.

Donations

The LFNSTM is STILL not asking for money over the web. If we were, it would say so here. But we aren't.

However, due to popular demand, we have created a donations account, whereby one off payments or regular contributions can be made, finally removing the need for our regular contributors to use cheque books and hard cash. Contact us if you require further details.

As always if you give money to anyone else claiming money on behalf of the regular Friday and Sunday streetskates in London it is not going to the LFNSTM. If in doubt just come and ask one of the marshals to point you in the right direction.

T-shirts

It's cold, it's dark, it's Winter! So why on earth would you want to buy a t-shirt? But if you do a limited number of official LFNSTM t-shirts are still available: get one now before the weather gets warm again.

WAP Update Service

Sometimes you can't get near a computer to find out whether the skate is on or not. We know, it's a nuisance.

So now you can use WAP to find out! Go to wap.lfns.co.uk on your Mobile to see if we're going or whether the weather has beaten us.

We don't charge for this service - normal WAP connection costs apply.
