Welcome Back My Friends to the Show That Never Ends[*]

[*] except at Christmas, and when it rains, and maybe a few other
times.

Too much turkey this Xmas? Made a New Year resolution to keep fit, but
hating the gym already? Never fear: WE'RE BACK. Every Friday you can
keep those resolutions to lose weight and make new friends in one easy
to swallow 12 mile skate. (Or, if that really isn't easy to swallow,
there's the 8 mile Sunday Stroll on - concentrate at the back -
Sundays.)

* This week: Culture Club, Liverpool St
* Last year: Santaskate pics
* Thinking outside the brox
* Word of the Week

== THIS WEEK ==

This FRIDAY's Lead Marshal, Sol, studied Art History in Tallinn Art
University (that's in Estonia). And she has celebrated her love of
culture in a route that starts out down Exhibition Road (past the V&A)
and goes on to pass Tate Britain, Tate Modern, the British Museum,
Somerset House (now home to the Courtauld Gallery), John Soane's
Museum (on Lincoln's Inn Fields), the National Portrait Gallery and
its neighbour, the National Gallery and the Royal Academy.

Oh, yeah. And then we go to the pub. (But if you want to lose weight
you won't be interested in that bit, of course)

On SUNDAY, Lead Marshal "let's see if I can do a no-alcohol January"
Christian will be leading the second of his two Pet Shop Boys inspired
skates. Having completed West End Girls last November, we're trying
out East End Boys this time. Of course being a Stroll we'll be going
at a relaxed pace so perfect for getting back into skating (or indeed
for just getting into skating). Half-time is Liverpool Street; so not
really that East End, but let's not get picky this early in the year.

== LAST YEAR ==

For those that don't remember, we finished up last year with half a
LFNS (before the rain made the ground too slippery to continue), a
Sunday Stroll, and a Santa Skate. And if you missed the Santa Skate
you can probably piece most of it together from the videos that
spectators uploaded to Youtube.

Big up to everyone that helped out last year and thanks to everyone
that KEPT LEFT.

== BASSLESS RUMOURS ==

The Firebrox went away for a rebuild after the last skate of last
year
                            http://ww.telent.net/tmp/rollbar.jpg

but it should be back soon - not this Friday, though. It has its own
New Year Resolutions - to be lighter, sexier, faster, louder, and
easier to store - and we've put blood (yes, really), sweat and white
spirit into this redesign to make it so.

Is this an elaborate runup to an appeal for donations? No, you're
probably not the right blood group. But look out for it when it
returns. Especially if you're standing in front of it at traffic
lights ...

First in a regular series of useful skating terms:

HOCKEY STOP(n) marshalling technique for blocking taxis, involves big
wooden stick

== WRAPPING PAPER ==

WoW is on its after-Xmas diet, so this is a short edition.

We are thinking about the sorts of things we could cover this year
(thanks to all who suggested ideas on Serpentine Road). If you have a
feature you would really like to see in this newsletter, please drop
us a line through the feedback form on the site. Don't reply to this
mail, it will bounce.
