== THIS WEEK ==

This FRIDAY, to help our Marshals get rid of their Christmas lard
(obviously just the Marshals, not our lovely participants!) we're
having another go at the famous Can O'Worms route - the actual layout
has been modified to represent the International Sign of the Anti-Rain
dance. 12.5 miles, half time near Battersea station.

SUNDAY is the Unkinked version: our LM for the day claims "smooth
surfaces, lovely vistas, and smiling faces all round!", so, er, please
smile kthx. 8 miles, half time at the cafe in Battersea Park, watch
out for twigs.

Twigs are a bit like worms, but are made of vegetable matter whereas
worms are animals. Also they're stiffer and tend to trip you when you
skate over them instead of just going mushy and clogging the gaps in
your frames. More handy hints on distinguishing easily confused
objects next week when we explain the difference between SIM cards and
skate flyers.

== LAST WEEK ==

Thanks to all who turned out to make the first LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT
SKATE of 2007 such a success. Lead Marshal Sol led a spectacular skate
round the high spots of London culture, on a route which seemed to
include more than the minimum number of nice fast straight roads.
Special thanks to Stevie and the LondonSkate people for music mixing
and for the loan of Bassfreight and Asboxes.

There is a SPECIAL PRIZE for stacking the LFNS Lead Marshal: you get
invited to contribute to the repair costs of the radio that bounced
off the ground. Please: when we say "behind the lead marshal" we mean
"behind", not "alongside and clipping the skates of" . For anyone
having trouble with this concept we'll be able to explain using
pictures, just as soon as we find the tattoo ink and the head
restraint. </rant>

Unseasonably nice weather brought out lots for the SUNDAY STROLL,
including some first time streetskaters. Those people that did make it
should have enjoyed a nice little trip through Covent Garden to
Liverpool St. Heavy traffic took us on an unscheduled detour through
Leicester Square on the way back: apologies to anyone who's ankles
weren't quite expecting it. Photos now on our web site - thanks,
Doron.

== EASTBOURNE EXTREME ==

Eastbourne is usually more widely known for its zimmer frames than its
slalom frames, but a not-all-that-closely-guarded secret is the annual
Eastbourne Extreme event where - among other things - masses of
skaters from London descend on it for slalom competitions, jumps, tug
of war, roller disco, and some slightly silly skating on beaches. The
date for this year has just been announced: 14th and 15th July. Best
keep an eye on serpentineroad.com for news as it happens.

== THE QUICK AND THE DATES ==

And something for the the big wheeled crowd, too. Dates for races ...

* The North Region Marathon (Preston), 3rd June.
                                    http://www.northregionmarathon.com/

* Goodwood Roller Marathon, 29th July. Camberley Skaters are putting
this one on again: they describe it as "a great day out and a
perfect start if you are new to skating marathons. All skaters are
welcome no matter what level or style of skating". If it's anything
like last year, it certainly will be.
                                     http://www.goodwoodmarathon.co.uk/

* London Inline Marathon, 2nd September. This year it moves right
across town to Hillingdon Cycle Circuit: the
euphemistically-described-as-"challenging" Eastway circuit used in
previous events is expected to be covered in Olympic Village by
summer. So it'll be a bit flatter from now on, which many will
regard as good news :-)
