== THIS WEEK ==
The LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE is another attempt at the rained off
"tunnel under the wall" route from a few weeks ago - who says TV is
the only place you can see repeats of The Great Escape?
Highlights include the American Embassy, Haymarket, Trafalgar Square,
then round by the Embankment to St Pauls before heading under the
tunnels around London Wall for half time at Moorgate. Then it's a fast
sprint over around and under Waterloo then underneath, then a sprint
through Victoria Street and the Tate Modern and returning via Sloane
square to Hyde Park Corner.

And then on SUNDAY we're Skating In The Year 4705. It's the Chinese
Year of the Pig, and we're heading westward to Bishops Park. To make
up for the cancellation of last week's Stroll, the route is a bit
longer than normal, working out to a total of just over 9 miles.

There is, actually, no Chinese theme to the skate at all. But there
will be fireworks in Leicester Square at 5pm, so stick around at the
end and see if other people are headed that way too.

== LAST WEEK ==
Not a lot. We were particularly unlucky with the weather last week;
neither the LFNS or Sunday Stroll went ahead. Instead, a group of
really dedicated skaters set off on a "suicide stroll".
Suicide (unmarshalled) skates sound daunting: they're not organised
and you have to look out for yourself more than usual, but there are a
few of these each week, so if you're comfortable skating in traffic,
just turn up and have a go. Tip: Tuesdays are usually more relaxed
than the more frenetic-paced Wednesday. Check the threads on
Serpentine Road for details of what happens each each week.
== EASTERSKATE: BEHIND THE SCENES ==
The Easter programme is now firmed up -
Friday - Long Good Friday Night Skate, 7pm start Hyde Park Corner
Saturday - Free workshops from the ICP skateschools,
LSST Long Slow Skate (TBC) 3 - 5pm
Sunday - the Sunday Bunny Stroll 2pm
Monday - SkatePatrol Treasurehunt in Hyde Park - 5pm
And for behind-the-scenes news on the Easter weekend, you need
BunnyBlog, where we're writing it all down as soon as we decide it -
indeed, sometimes before we decide it. And more importantly, many
silly photos.

== SKIP THIS BIT, IT'S BORING ==
From time to time we hear that people are using websites to solicit
Paypal donations, apparently to support the running of the Friday and
Sunday group skates. Please be warned that this isn't us. We don't
know where the money goes, but it doesn't come here.
If you've donated money in the past year in this way, under the
impression that it would be spent on the Firebrox sound system, or on
the radios we use, or on hosting for www.lfns.co.uk, or on vests or
training for our new marshals, it hasn't. Please do report it to
PayPal.
(If you would like to help support the skates financially, we're
currently exploring ways that you can do that and know for sure where
the money went. Give us a few weeks to sort out details, then come
and find the marshals before or after the skate and ask)
== HOLDING HANDS AT THE BACK ==
This year as every year we celebrate Valentine's Day with an amnesty
on loved-up couples holding hands at the back of the skate and paying
no attention to their surroundings[*]. If you aren't one of them, and
you want to be, our friends at inlineplanet.com are plugging their new
venture singleskaters.com. From the description, "Get access to our
community of compassionate singles and join the fun. Send Free
Messages, flirt with True Skaters and Fitness Enthusiasts and see
where things lead!". Because, obviously, you don't want to flirt with
False Skaters, they'll only break your heart.

[*] not that you can take advantage of it, we'll be back to our usual
shouty selves by Friday
== AND OTHER COMPLETELY DIFFERENT KINDS OF DATE ==
The Circle Line Skate is now fixed for 20th April, the first Friday
with sunset after 8pm. The LondonSkate (Wednesday nights) will also
be resuming that week, on the 18th. They scooped us last year on the
Halloween Skate, so we're beating them to the announcement of their
thing this year.
(We love them really, yes)

== TAILING OFF ==
Spacer(n): not content with shuffling along following the crowd, this
skater seeks new challenges and open space on the other side of the
road. Not quite of this world (or long for it), he will someday find
that the bubble his perceptions are filtered through is no protection
agains the oncoming car that it's fitered out.
