== THIS WEEK ==

This week the LOUD FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE is titled "what goes up must go
down". So, 12.5 miles of hills then? We cover Marylebone, Edgeware and
skirt Paddington, before half time at Bayswater. Hilliness starts as
we venture through Notting Hill, Holland Park, and everyone's
favourite Kensington Church Street downhill before some slightly
unconventional twisty turny bits that lead us back towards the park.
8pm Friday: usual rules apply. Please keep an eye out for the bike.

Oh, was that a bit subtle? Yes, the rumours are true - we're planning
for the Firebrox (as seen on TV ...) to be there

On the SUNDAY STROLL, Christian will be taking us on a relaxed jaunt
past some pretty amazing shopping venues. Knightsbridge, Sloane
Square, Pimlico, Eaton Place and Sloane Street. We go and have a nose
at Whitehall and St James's Park too. First timers most welcome. Half
time is at Embankment tube.

== LAST WEEK ==

FRIDAY was our first skate in (what felt like) months, and we hit the
ground rolling.

"When drivers honk their horns and pedestrians shout at us asking
'What's it all about?!' then you know you're part of something a bit
special"

    - or, maybe, just that they don't see many road users in
      boilersuits and bunny ears.

"Last night I was making my way through Hyde Park, when a white
rabbit skated close by me. There was something very remarkable in
that, and I thought it very much out of the way to hear the rabbit
say 'Welcome to the LFNS!'

I had the most excellent adventure. I'm just not sure if I was in
Wonderland or the Matrix last night."

    - according to the map it was Shoreditch Park. Boy did we take a
      wrong turning somewhere ...

"And if you go chasing rabbits, and you know you're going to fall"

    - then scissor. Jefferson Airplane wrote great songs but were not
      qualified skate instructors.

Was he dreaming about the rabbit? Some of the photos we have of last
week's skate are pretty hazy, but see for yourself:

On SUNDAY, Birthday boy Kensey took us on a gentle route round the
fields of Gray's Inn. Special thanks to Eugene who abandoned his
skates to ride the Firebrox, and to Marty, who gave us tunes for us to
skate by. Unusually, there was some controversy about the contents of
our music collection - you're welcome to submit mixes, though the
Lighthouse Family are, apparently, a no-no

We do have photos (thanks, Doron), but you can't see them yet owing to
minor technical problems (ours not his) - check back in a day or so,
we hope.

== EGGS, BASKET OF ==

It's less than a month until our Easter Eggstravaganza and the
official start of the London summer skating season. We kick off with
an extended version of the London Friday Night Skate. The route will
be touristy, and it'll be 4-5 miles longer than usual.

We'll be skating off from Serpentine Road at 7pm, an hour earlier than
usual. The first section will be a medium-paced loop returning to
Wellington Arch at 8pm to pick up stragglers. We'll have another break
at about 9pm, and expect to be back for about 10pm. Afterwards we'll
be partying at a pub or a club, not quite sure where yet, but you're
welcome to join us.

If you're new to the LFNS, come along at 7pm for the first bit and see
how you get on. If you've never skated on the roads at all, don't
expect to last the course though!

Visit the website for a full roundup of events over Easter. If you can
help us out by distributing our flyer, we'd be eggstatic.

== FORTHCOMING EVENTS: CAN YOU BARE IT? ==

In 2006, 800 riders, and a few skaters, including two of our most
loved marshals, took to the streets in the London chapter of the World
Naked Bike Ride (& Skate). This year, the event is expanding to
several cities throughout the UK.

The day's events kick off in Brighton at 10am, and the participants
will be joining their companions when the London ride starts (3pm on
Saturday 9th June). You don't actually have to go nude, just go as
bare as you dare, and travel by bicycle or on inlines.

== THE FIRST DANCE? MORE LIKE A GLIDE ==

We spotted some familiar faces on You Tube this week: Mike and Alison,
ex London skaters who decided to share their love of skating with the
guests at their wedding.

== WHAT SAY THE LAWYERS? ==

Red Light Jumper(n): this breathable base layer garment designed with
technical performance fabrics weighs a mere 200g. Bright colour means
it's visible at a distance.
