This Week, on Wheels

* Saturday night: British Skating Time begins
* This week: Best of London and ‘It's a Mystery’ skate
* Last week: Queensway and grain on Sunday
* Hop, hop, bunny: we’re getting closer to our Easter Eggstravaganza
* Summer’s coming: return of our Destination Strolls

== CLOCKS GO FORWARD TO BRITISH SKATING TIME ==

Clocks - they do silly things this Saturday night, so don't get
caught out and end up waiting for the Sunday Stroll to start, as we
should have already left an hour earlier.

== THIS WEEK ==

We like to spoil our regulars, so on this week's LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT
SKATE, we have not 1, but 2 lead marshals. Bren is leading us out of
the park, and will be handing over the reins at Trafalgar Square, our
half time spot. PeterC, who'll be leading the second half, will be
celebrating both his birthday and his inaugural outing as Lead
Marshal. We'll running it as a Best of London skate, with a touristy
route and a moderate pace throughout. And as last week's music proved
popular, we'll be throwing in another cracking mix.

Don't forget to check the www.lfns.co.uk website to check whether the
skate is on or has been rained off - we normally make the call at 5pm
on Fridays

This week’s SUNDAY STROLL route is being kept secret by our lead
marshal. There are a number of choices in direction and Secret
Squirrel has at least three routes in the bag, so don't be surprised
if we end up with half time at Bishops Park, Tower, Maida Vale or
Embankment. We will let you know in advance though, as we have to
pick one to route check by Saturday. Music mixes this week have been
supplied by Nick (the really tall one).

== LAST WEEK ==

Lead Marshal Markus celebrated the return of the upgraded music bike
to Friday nights with a more than usually gentle (for him) trip round
the West End. Only after our half-time stop at Queensway did he
revert to the Evil Markus of old when he led the skate on a little-
used path **up** through Holland Park. As marshals and skaters
stopped for oxygen on leaving the park, the reason for the magic
words 'little-used' became all too clear.

Still, it was downhill all the way thereafter, with an unscheduled
pause at the Albert Hall for Marshal Tammy to make a start on the
cosmetic dentistry course she's always promised herself. (Tammy's OK
now and her dentist says the new front teeth will be things of
beauty.)

Congratulations to all who finished without a trip to A&E and thanks
to Dan and Peter for piloting our lean, mean music machine.

Last week's SUNDAY STROLL went to the wire, with beautiful sunshine
and blue skies at 1pm and hail and wind at 1:15. We don't Stroll when
the roads are slippery, so we had to call it off. It was lovely
weather again by 4pm though. Bad luck Christian! Congratulations,
though to Penny and Eriko, Skatefresh pupils who enjoyed their first
Stroll a couple of weeks ago. Hope to see you again next week!

If you fancy beating us to the weathercall, check out the links on
the LondonSkaters site, they also feature the weathercams around Hyde
Park.

== HOP HOP BUNNY ==

The plans for our Easter Eggstravaganza weekend are firming up
nicely. Here’s what’s on the menu so far:

* Extended Long Good Friday Night Skate, starts 7pm from Serpentine
Road, returning to Wellington Arch at 8pm to pick up stragglers then
off again. 17 miles in total, lovely touristy route.

** Free lessons on Saturday afternoon from ICP skateschools
Skatefresh, Skatescool, Inline School and Skateinstructor.com.
LondonSkaters are donating a prize for our competition. Drop-in
sessions in Street Hockey and Freestyle from LondonSkaters Freestyle
Club.

*** Sunday costumed Bunny Stroll, demos from quad dancers, free heel
brake clinics from SkatePatrol London (they’ll be out on Monday too).
Then we’re off to The Victoria pub for an eggstravagant party,
competitions and fabulous prizes (more about those and our sponsors
next week).

**** On Easter Monday, Skate Patrol London will be holding a treasure
hunt with chocolatey treats for all entrants. We’re hoping to finish
off our weekend with some cunning stunts from some of the best
skaters in London.

For up to the minute details, visit the EasterSkates website, or the
Bunny Blog, for a behind-the-scenes look at where we’ve hidden the
carrots.

== LOST & FOUND ==

Friday's skate seems to have over-excited at least one skater who was
so thrilled to make it to the end that she (we're guessing from her
helmet size) put her helmet on the roof of her car and then drove off
leaving the red Pro-Tec head covering lying in the road. Your ever-
vigilant marshals recovered it and Geoff will be bringing it to the
next few skates. If it's yours, get in touch with him directly or ask
a marshal to point him out to you. If you're not going to be around,
contact us through the Feedback form on our website.

== HELLOO - WHERE IS EVERYONE? ==

If you’re out and rolling with us on either the LFNS or Sunday Stroll
you may note a number of our regular marshals are missing! They’ve
all gone to a Lycra convention somewhere in the Med. This shouldn’t
spoil your enjoyment though, as we’re running a Best Of London skate
this Friday, which doesn't require the marshals to get too far ahead
as the speed is kept down. For more info on the skate training camp
that they have gone to, look out for next weeks WoW where we will
bully one of them into writing up a report on what happened.

== SUMMER DESTINATION SKATES ==

As the clocks go forwards this weekend we start to think about those
lovely summer afternoons ahead of us (rather than those bitterly cold
ones we’re currently enduring). The fact that it’s staying light
until after 7 means that we can start planning the return of the 1-
way destination Sunday Strolls.

We have a stock of routes that take us from Hyde Park to such exotic
locations as Kew, Ealing, Greenwich and Victoria Park. Even though
it’s completely uphill all the way, the Alexandra Palace run can be
fun *wink*. So look out for these, we’re planning one every month
over the summer starting in May. Updates available over the next few
weeks so watch this space.
