== THIS WEEK ==
Our friends the LONDONSKATE are doing their West End/Fitzrovia route.
Meet by the bandstand tonight, 7:30pm for 8. The route takes in
Parliament Sq, Piccadilly Circus, Shaftesbury Av, Covent Garden,
Tottenham Court Rd and Baker Street with half time at Brunswick
Square.

In this week's LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE, we're off around the back
streets of London through twisting mews, up through little Venice,
under the M40 and down the hill to the back streets of Notting Hill
for half time where the fun really starts - off through Holland Park
and into Knightsbridge before looping around Hyde Park Corner, for a
final lap of honour, starting down the smooth downhill streets of
Victoria, past Westminster and No 10 for the final ascent by the Ritz
for a last mad dash down to Hyde Park Corner. Now breath out.
We tried to run this route a month ago but were rained off: check the
LFNS site at 5pm on Friday which is when we make the weather call.

The route for this week's SUNDAY STROLL is either a marvel of
geometry, or the colouring in of a particularly uncoordinated goat,
depending on how you like your art. Still, there's method to our
madness as usual, except you'll have to wait till the Stroll to find
out. Half time is just off Marylebone High Street.

== LAST WEEK ==
"Tonight was fun, and thanks to the few that were serenading us
throughout the skate in place of the music. Shame they only knew
the choruses" - a skater
"Dunno, I was stuck at the front the whole time. It sounded like
people were enjoying themselves though - I'm sure someone would
have said something otherwise" - a Lead Marshal
Last FRIDAY was a fun but oddly quiet skate up to Queensway and then
onwards into Kensington. Evil nasty surfaces on the first half gave
way to a smooth downhill on Kensington Church Street and some nice
twisty turny bits in the second half.

SUNDAY saw a continuation of the good weather and consequently lots of
skaters on the SUNDAY STROLL. Over 200 set off from Hyde Park towards
Battersea Park where we stopped for refreshments in the café (did they
run out of ice cream?) before wending our way back through Chelsea and
some of the beautiful squares in Belgravia.

We're delighted to see so many new faces (and some old ones - where
have you been?), but dismayed to see the number of novices skating
without protection. There were 2 nasty falls on Sunday both of which
needed a trip to hospital. Knee and wrist protection is recommended,
inexpensive, and easily available from skate shops and some sports
shops.
== NEXT WEEK: NO REPORTED DELAYS ON THE CIRCLE LINE ==
Our investigation into the repeted delays on the Circle Line skate has
concluded that one of the two lead marshals for this event is
lazy. It's a choice between Bren or Sol: one does 30km of training
every week before the Stroll, the other hangs around the Vic a
lot. Still, as Bren's promised to get us some new rolling stock, we're
still on target for the Circle Line Skate next Friday, to celebrate
our 6th Birthday.
The route is an 18 mile anticlockwise loop passing (or near enough to
get away with it) all of the Tube stations on the Circle Line. The
skate is in three parts, starting at Wellington Arch as usual and
passing Victoria at as our first and last station. The first section
is a medium amble to Liverpool Street, then slightly faster to
Paddington and then we have a change of Lead Marshal and Sol will lead
the runaway train down Kensington Church Street for the last part
which will be an adrenaline-fueled black run.
Now that the FireBrox has been fixed and reportedly runs like it's on
rails, we will have music blasting out from a special Circle Line mix
that's been waiting patiently to be played. We have three riders
taking turns so whatever the pace, the music will be with us.
Want to be fashionably dressed? We really don't care whether you wear
your pads inside or outside your trousers, but as it's the Circle
Line skate, we'll be WEARING YELLOW.
== FUTURE EVENT: GOODWOOD ==
Registration has just opened for this year's Goodwood Roller
Marathon, which is being organised for the 2nd year running by the
Camberley Skaters. In past years this event has been well attended by
skaters who enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, picnic facilities and the
variety of skaters and abilities that the event attracts. It's being
held on the Goodwood Motor Circuit, near Chichester on Sunday July
29th, 2007.
If the event is run as in previous years, you'll have a full 5 hours
to complete the 11 laps or 26.2 miles for the full marathon (so
there's plenty of time for picnic stops in there!) Otherwise you can
go for the mini or midi marathons, at 5 and 12 miles each. The event
has always been run for charity, and this year is supporting the
NSPCC.

== THE BIKE IS BACK IN TOWN ==
Making a welcome return on last week's Sunday Stroll was our FireBrox
music bike, which had been out of action for the last 2 weeks since
the brakes jammed on in the middle of the LFNS. Our bike team have
spent many hours this last week stripping down the bike, replacing
broken axles, bleeding the brakes and giving the Brox as much TLC as
is legally possible.
Despite the unseasonal temperatures, our bike rider and sometimes
mender PeterC was enthusiastic about the new riding experience: "Now
comes with Faris-o-matic, a feature that makes it feel like someone
is pushing you all the time. It's much easier to ride, easier to
accelerate, and when cruising you can have a breather as it just
rolls along."
== PHOTO FINISH ==
Over the last few months we've had many offers of the use of your
photographs for our LFNS galleries. You may have also noticed
occasional delays in us getting the photo galleries on the LFNS
website uploaded and sorted each week. Our technical brain has been
hard at work and come up with a solution involving the popular
Flickr.com site, which we like and think you will too. If you're on
Flickr send mail to dan_b to find out details, otherwise get yourself
registered there and watch this space for further instructions...
