We didn't manage to lose our heads last week, so the SUNDAY STROLL is
again Heading to a Beheading. The route takes us east across the City
for a half time stop at The Tower. Slightly longer than normal for a
Stroll as we have to avoid most of the roadworks around the Central
West End, it'll be about 11 miles in total, but we're promised an
additional short break on the homeward stretch.

And TONIGHT, the LondonSkate hope to cross those bridges when they
come to them. Meet 7:30pm as usual opposite the bandstand on
Serpentine Road for a departure at 8pm. The skate is weather
dependent, check the thread on the forum to see if they're running or
not.

== LAST WEEK ==
"ok... I'm in the pub already... doesn't look good 4 2nite"
Last week was wet. You noticed, presumably.
== BRIGHTON ROCK (AND ROLL) ==
17th June is the date of the annual London-Brighton bike ride, when
27000 people get their bikes out of the shed and "I haven't done any
training, you know" wobble along this 54 mile route before pushing
their bikes up Ditchling Beacon. Last year a small group of London
skaters decided to do it on skates instead, and they all came back
saying how great it was, so this year we plan to repeat the
experience. Advantages: nobody will believe you've done it, it looks
so much cooler, and you can go home on the train (cyclists can't, due
to overcrowding concerns). And it's a great way to promote skating to
cyclists - especially when you overtake them :-)
If you're interested, have a look at the thread on the
serpentineroad.com forum. There'll probably be several groups at a
range of speeds, so if you think you can cope with the distance don't
worry that you'll be too slow. And if you're not interested in doing
it yourself, have a gander at Dan Benton's Justgiving page, where he's
raised over £700 already for Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

== ROADS FOR BIKES? ==
"One of the golden rules of cycling is never to go up the inside of
lorries. The new code effectively tells you to do this."
- John Franklin, author of Cyclecraft (endorsed by RoSPA)
This has been in the news a bit already: the new revision of the
Highway Code currently before Parliament tells cyclists to use cycle
routes "wherever possible". This is a big change from the current
version that merely says "where practicable" - any cyclist will be
happy to tell you that many cycle facilities are downright
impractical: less safe and less convenient than the roads they run
alongside.
But we're skaters, not cyclists - why should we care? Well, if
cyclists (who've been using roads since the invention of the bicycle)
get squeezed into "separate but equal" facilities by measures like
this, it's unlikely the courts will have much more sympathy with
eight-wheeled road users. And then how are we going to find new
routes for street skates?
What can you do about it? Sign the petition and write to your MP:
