Subject: [wow] Wine on Wheels: Farewell Fabric
Date: Thu, 29 Nov 2007 16:04:32 +0000
We apologise for the late arrival of this week's newsletter, which was
caused by a bottle of Merlot.
That is, the newsletter was caused by a bottle of Merlot. Its late
arrival is just one of those things.
== THIS WEEK ==
An LM writes:
"While most of the LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE marshals are way too
athletic to waste valuable training time idling away their hours in
London's clubland, the same cannot always be said for the mobile sound
system called Firebrox. So when Brox heard this Sunday is to be the
last DTPM at Fabric, our beat bangin' bike was almost
inconsolable. Luckily the promise of a skate to Farringdon's finest
seems to have settled our maniacal musical machine. For those that
don't give a fig for Fabric, the 10 mile route also includes some
wicked wiggles through Victoria and Lambeth, and of course, the
fabulous Pentonville Rise downhill"
Such an aggressive attitude to artful alliteration (as above) can only
mean one thing: it's Roggie's turn at the front again.

The SUNDAY STROLL is doing a nice little loop (with a few crossovers)
through SW1, which we're told should be nice surfaces and lots of fun.
Half time at Pimlico tube.

== SERPENTICED ROAD ==
Reports are coming in that Serpentine Road is now Serpentine Rink: the
biggest open-air ice rink in London (they say) has now been erected
just down the road from where we usually meet to start the Sunday
Stroll.
There may still be space for us, but what with bungy domes, vehicle
access, pedestrians and railings it may be that we get squeezed out
from time to time over the next few weeks: so, if you should arrive
for a skate and find we're not there, have a look over the road to the
south, on the grassy bit near the Grand Entrance.

Rumours are that they're upgrading the street lighting along Hyde Park
as well, but if they go for the same "authentic" look as we got on the
Broad Walk, it's probably too early to get excited just yet.
== SANTA SKATE IS COMING TO TOWN ==
Only 2 weeks left until the Santa Skate, your annual opportunity to
bring a touch of Christmas cheer to the West End by skating through it
dressed as Santa Claus. It's a ticketed event - for the princely sum
of ten pounds you get a Santa costume, entrance to the party
afterwards, and a warm fuzzy feeling (it may help to hold the furry
bit against your cheek). Monies raised go towards running the
LondonSkate, and they're going to be throwing a bit the way of the
LFNS too.
The skate is on Saturday 15 December. Look out for Santa's little
helpers selling tickets at half-time on Fridays and Sundays and do
book early. If you're not going to be out on the skates between now
and then but want a ticket, contact us through our feedback form and
we'll put you in touch with someone.

== HURRY, ONLY SEVEN SKATING SKATING DAYS LEFT BEFORE CHRISTMAS ==
It stops on the 16th December: until then you have three London Friday
Night Skates, three Sunday Strolls, and a Santa Skate. After that,
not a skater will stir until 2008 - except perhaps for various less
promptu skates run on a whim and a prayer. If you're confident on the
road on unmarshalled skates, keep your ear to the ground to get dusty
marks in your hair and funny looks from passers-by.
So it remains only for us to thank Janet Kidd for the £185,000 in
donations - and she was so surprised when we wrote to her, too - and
we reach the end of this week's wheels. Stay real. The word on the
street is "BUS STOP"
