== THIS WEEK ==
For the first LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE of the year we're unveiling
the brand new HACKNEY CARRIAGE route - yes, we're heading to Hackney
to see the pretty lights outside ye olde town hall. The 13 mile route
takes us directly to Old Street, and from there we leave the roads
behind in favour of cycle tracks and parkways. The return route was
inspired by none other than a skater called Faris, so expect the best
that London streets have to offer, though it may be a little
noisy. Speaking of which, much music will be delivered by the fumping
Firebrox, ridden by the redoubtable Rick.
Hackney has no tube station, but those that don't want to complete the
second half could catch one of many buses from Hackney Central. Or
it's a 2km skate down the road to Bethnal Green.
Quick reminder if you've forgotten how to behave on a marshalled
skate, you stay BEHIND the lead marshal, IN FRONT of the tail marshal,
and to the LEFT of the other marshals who are trying to pass you.
This is HACKNEY CARRIAGE not HACKNEY CARNAGE.

The SUNDAY STROLL will be a bit less epic: for all those with New
Years Resolutions to get fit on spinny wheeliny things that Santa may
have left lying around. It's a shortish outing to Battersea Park for
half time before returning to Hyde Park. Perfect speed for all anyone
attempting their first street skate and those that have gained a few
extra inches over the holidays and lost their fitness. Come along, it
will do you good.

== SANTASTIC ==
No skates from last week to report on, but if the return to work has
left you feeling Christmas was a long time ago, have a coffee and a
quick skive looking at some Santaskate photos.

Here is the News.
The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION of RECREATIONAL SKATERS (NARS) officially
formed in late December to represent the interests of recreational and
street skaters at a national level and promote our favourite pastime.
There'll be an open meeting around the end of February for everyone
interested in joining or helping out, but in the meantime join the
forum and see what's going on.

EASTERSKATE 08 is confirmed for the weekend of 21-24 March: keep the
date free for a return oflast year's popular fancy dress skates,
workshops and silly games. We'll be dusting off the bunnyblog soon,
so more on that when we've got more to say.
LE MANS this year is 28-29th June. This year there's a difference,
though: the new "Duo" category allows teams of two, as well as the
more usual 10 (or one). The Londonskaters Speed Team are putting a
veterans team together (participants must be over 35) and no doubt
there'll be the usual choices for non-lycra skaters as well.
If you'd rather stay in the UK for your races, the GOODWOOD ROLLER
MARATHON - 11 laps of the classic Goodwood Motor Circuit - is set for
10th August 2008. And the LONDON INLINE MARATHON will be held on 31st
August at the Hillingdon Cycle Circuit. Registration for that one
opens on Monday and there are Early Bird discounts so don't leave it
until you forget.

The LONDONSKATE (Wednesday night skate) usually restarts some time in
April, but we don't have confirmation of this year's date yet.
