Subject: [wow] Week on Wheels: Heroes and Gremlins
Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2008 20:45:02 +0000
Unfortunately Gremlins have again gotten into the Supercomputer at WOW headquarters
and thus we apologise for the late arrival of this week's episode. It would appear that they
were inadvertently given snacks after midnight, but have now been sufficiently thwarted
and normal service resumed...
== THIS WEEK ==
FRIDAY - The Superhero Skate
To help you get started with implementing these New Year's Resolutions we're doing a
quick lap of Regent's Park, with a detour through Little Venice, and a half time stop in
Chalk Farm. Where do Superheroes come in? Well, Friday you might feel like
Quicksilver, but on Saturday you'll be Thor. Marvelous, innit.

SUNDAY - Eastern Promise
Should the unmentionable hold off, Kensey will be leading us on a sojourn to Gray's Inn
Fields with a route taking in some of the back streets of the older part of London town,
followed by a saunter down The Strand before the home stretch up Constitution Hill. Yes,
that one.

== LAST WEEK ==
FRIDAY - Wet stuff managed to scupper plans for the first LFNS, but insider info from the
lead marshal's tree house is that Roggie will try to run the route early in Feb.
SUNDAY - Last week's Stroll was small, yet perfectly formed. Thanks to all who braved the
break in the rainstorm to roll on the first stroll of the year. Wasn’t the music mix great?

== MAN ON THE STREET: 2008 - A MAPPED ODYSSEY==
In a city that many regard as being completely over run with unnecessary street furniture,
someone has managed to produce something that is actually useful to those that are not
locked up in a metal 4 wheeled box. New street maps have been appearing on the
pavements since December. First observed during installation they were all wrapped up
and took on the mystery of the Black Monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
However, on unveiling they are far more useful than a time portal (although this function
has yet to be tested.) They are detailed street maps which are usefully orientated in the
direction that they are facing, so no need to have the mindset of a lead marshal to work
out where you are going. One particularly useful point is that walking distances are
indicated on the map, for example, Oxford Circus to Marble Arch is listed as a 15 minute
walk, which we all know can be completed in 3 minutes on skates.
