== THIS WEEK ==

This FRIDAY is THE EXTRA DATE SKATE - the day when traditionally,
ladies are permitted do away with tradition to propose to their true
love. Also, traditionally a day to get your skates on and burn some
proverbial rubber. Tis a Best of London route, 10.something miles
going through loads of touristy bits, with a red route pace throughout
so all the lovely stroll marshalls can come and join us trying to keep
Critical Mess out of the skate. Also perfect for first time Friday
Nighters.

The SUNDAY STROLL goes north to Camden. There's a good chance we're
going to have photographers waiting for us when we get there, and
quite possibly there will be a local journalist or two doing
interviews at half time. So remember to put on your best smiles and
show everyone those special tricks you have been learning recently.

There are some nice LONG straight runs (sorry marshals), and the usual
meandering through central London to get there. The route is just
under 8 miles, but it's downhill all the way back, honest

== LAST WEEK ==

When lead marshal Edd said dig it, we dug it. And so it was that last
week's LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE went underground, well, as often as
it could. One skater said of the night, "That was a really good skate
which really worked much better with the smaller winter crowd. My only
question is, why did the roads turn so slippery after half time?"
While opinions vary, rumours that London's cabbies clubbed together
and greased the roads for us seem to be unfounded.

Lube Man, our resident lubrication consultant, reckons it was due to a
combination of Diesel spilled on the road and the cold night air
condensing on the relatively warm roads. Hey, anything Lube Man says
is alright by us.

On Sunday Roggie took the love train that is the SUNDAY STROLL all the
way, this time to the doughnut sanctuary that is Euston Station. In a
change to our published timetable, the Sunday Stroll turned its nose
at the British Library in favour of the superior fast food outlets of
Euston Square.

Having polished off a few doughnuts at half time, Strollers one and
all formed an orderly pack and began the journey back to Hyde Park via
Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square. As he offered his telescope to his
blind eye, Nelson of Trafalgar was heard to say, "I see no
skaters...", but he would say that, being as he passed away long
before Wellington Boots were invented, let alone polyurethane wheels
and ABEC bearings. Comedy, they say, is all about timing, and he is
the late Lord Nelson.

== EOSTRE GEN ==

Three and a half weeks until the Easter Eggstravaganza, and we're
pleased to be able to confirm the involvement of

* the Londonskaters Freestyle Club (LSFC), who will be conducting a
free jump workshop on Monday afternoon.

* Rollback Skating, who will be teaching those old-school quad skating
moves on Saturday afternoon, alongside the ICP inline instructors.

Details shortly to be posted on our shiny new web site (now with
actual pictures)
                                    http://www.easterskate.co.uk/

According to a popular piece of folklore, Eostre once saved a bird
whose wings had frozen during the winter by turning it into a
rabbit. Because the rabbit had once been a bird, it could still lay
eggs, and that rabbit became the modern Easter Bunny.

== STRUTTING OUR STUFF ==

Poles in Britain have had something of a mixed reaction from the more
conservative elements of our press, but we've found them to be smart,
strong and reliable elements of our operation, doing their job quietly
and without fuss.

What are we talking about? Skaters on Sunday will have seen Firebrox
2.1 out to play, now with extra metalwork to hold the speakers off the
ground and away from the rider's head. Our test rider said "I rode it
all the way to the start point without any music on, listening to the
nice sounds of the park, not the crashing, banging, squeaking and
grinding from the bike behind me". Special thanks to Mick for the
metalwork, and the usual Firebrox crew for fitting and fettling.
