== THIS WEEK ==
FRIDAY's skate is a BEST OF LONDON. For those not familiar with this
tradition, it has two implications. First, the route takes in lots of
tourist landmarks, so bring you camera and take lots of motion-blurred
photos of Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus, the London Eye and the views
over the Thames. Second, that it is "red" (intermediate) pace
throughout - there is no black section, so if you've been doing the
Stroll comfortably and wonder if you'd manage an LFNS ,this is a good
one to start with. Friday 8pm Hyde Park Corner, half time somewhere
round the back of Covent Garden.

The SUNDAY STROLL, in a bid to avoid the London Marathon route, heads
west. SOYLENT GREEN was a 1973 dystopian science fiction movie
starring the recently deceased Charlton Heston. WALHAM GREEN was a
triangular plot of greensward on the north side of the Fulham Road,
upon which, in former times, donkeys had been wont to graze, and the
village children to play at cricket. The difference is key, because
it's the latter we're going to be visiting on Sunday. Remember,
Soylent Green is people, but Walham Green is parkland. Starts at 2pm
Serpentine Road.

As usual, skates are weather-dependent and may be cancelled if roads
are made treacherous by rain, sleet, hail, manna or plagues of frogs.
== LAST WEEK ==
"You guys organise this so well, maybe we should get you to run
Heathrow Terminal 5 for a week to clear up the mess!"
And wouldn't airports be so much more fun if you could skate to the
terminal building? Friday's outing to Clapham was described as "the
first skate of summer" - perhaps somewhat precipitately, given that
the Sunday Stroll was cancelled two days later by snow.

== CURTAINS ==
Rumours of the Firebrox's demise on Friday were caused by a
misunderstanding: yes, a bent tracking rod made it harder to pedal
than usual; no, anything further you might have heard about it being
"curtains" was just chinese whispers.
We can rebuild him. Apparently it needs someone with a vice (so we're
looking for a marshal who bites his fingernails) to straigthen out the
bent rod, then reassembly is a complicated ritual involving two bits
of wood, some string, and 4cc of mouse blood.

== NEXT WEEK ==
Don't forget that the Londonskate season starts next week on the 16th
April - more details on their web site. We'd say something
sarcastic again, but we got so much grief last time let's just say
we're looking forward to it and leave it at that.
If you're unfamiliar with the Londonskate, it's a 10-12 mile (ish)
skate on Wednesday nights, somewhere between the speed of a Sunday
Stroll and an LFNS. They have their unique signature as do we, but
the same basic principles apply (which is good, because half the
marshals help with both, and we'd easily get confused otherwise).

== COP-OUT ==
As widely reported in the media, the Police escort for the Parisian
leg of the Olympic torch relay included officers on roller skates.
They're a common sight in Paris - not only on the Pari-Roller but for
general police duties - but the last attempt to introduce them in
London's Royal Parks was discontinued after, it was claimed, suspects
escape by running across the grass where the skate police could not
follow them.
Effective or otherwise, it still displays a whole lot more style than
the police in London who were jogging alongside the Torch while
wearing bike helmets - but that's the French for you.

== CAST NO SHADOW ==
Lastest installment in the thrilling saga of the Lovers Walk
streetlights: most but not all of the trenches have now been filled
in, but approximately half the lights are turned off. You wouldn't
expect it to make much difference (we speculate that the maximum light
output was legally restricted by some obscure temporary wartime
legislation which, like income tax, nobody has yet got round to
repealing) but the glimmer cast by each working lamp is just about
sufficient to illuminate the pole it stands on, so watch out for the
others when skating through the park at night.
