== THIS WEEK ==

Fresh from the triumph of leading the skate to Barnes last week (see
below), on FRIDAY Brendan is intending to repeat the exercise for the
benefit of those misguided enough to have been in France. (If you
really don't know why they were there, see 'Le Mans', below.) This
week he intends to have some marshals to help out.

We pass the odd pond on the way. Please remember that in this country,
eating the frogs is not acceptable.

On SUNDAY, Roger will be taking us somewhere. We tried to get more
details but he just said, "Euston, we have a problem," and then the
radio link went dead. Do you think he was trying to give us a clue?

== LAST WEEK ==

Those of us who didn't make it to Le Mans for FRIDAY took advantage of
the long summer evenings to wander westward to the countryside. Yes,
it was Lead Marshal Bren's annual outing to Barnes, where city skaters
were reminded of what a tree looks like. Those who had skated to
Richmond the previous Sunday were unimpressed but the others were
awe-struck. "Wow," said one urbanite, "it's all, like, green."

SUNDAY kept up the pastoral theme with Kensey's famous Shepherd's
Green route. Yet again, we failed to find any shepherds. Remarks about
skaters following like sheep will be treated with the contempt they
deserve.

== LE MANS ==

For those who wondered where all the skaters were this weekend, the
answer was that most of London's coolest decamp to Le Mans to run the
famous 24 hour race on skates. Special congratulations to Craig and
George who ran the whole 24 hours as a Duo. Yes, the two of them each
skated 12 hours in an exhibition of dedication, fitness and
certifiable insanity. Of those racing as Duos, Craig and George
finished third: an inspiring achievement. What it inspires you to, of
course, is entirely up to you. (Buying George and Craig a drink might
be a useful suggestion.)

== PHRASE BOOK ==

As the holiday season approaches, we start a series on useful phrases
for skaters (especially those visiting us on the LFNS). This week:
Keep Left:

French: A gauche
German: Links (bleiben/skaten)
Italian: A sinistra
Spanish: A la izquierda
English: The one you hold your fork in
American: The one you don't hold your fork in

== THE FINISH LINE ==

So, as skaters stagger back from the annual debauch that is the
madness of running a motoring endurance race on skates, we bring this
Week on Wheels to an early and exhausted stop. Don't attempt to reply
to this by mail, use the feedback form on our site instead. To
