==THIS WEEK==
FRIDAY: As a special treat, just for a change this week the LONDON
FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE is not going anywhere near Shoreditch. Instead, Dan
is taking us on a big anti-clockwise circle round west London. All who
are anti-clocks are welcome to join us.

SUNDAY: Lead marshal Steve has dusted off his skating kit, dug out his
A to Z, cleaned the rust off his bearings and is ready to take a
gentle SUNDAY STROLL to Battersea. As usual, this week we'll be coming
back to Hyde Park, so native guides and mule trains are completely
optional extras.

==LAST WEEK==

After suggestions that the LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE had been getting
a little slower lately, Lead Marshal Rogetta stepped up the pace with
a lively trip in the general direction of the City. Rogina took full
advantage of freshly resurfaced roads around Lambeth Palace and lit
out on a few impressive sprints. Half-time was Roge's favourite:
Hoxton Square. And after a fast dash back, we arrived at the park with
plenty of time for drinks.

Our multimedia snappers were out in force. Some 50 photos were taken,
plus what could turn out to be the best video of the year. All can be
seen here:

SUNDAY was the postponed One Way Stroll to Victoria Park. We tried to
keep it slow but there are limits to how slowly it is safe to go,
especially in places like Hyde Park Corner. Apologies to those who had
to drop out very soon after the start. Please remember that, though it
is designed for people new to street skating, the Sunday Stroll does
skate on streets open to traffic and you need to be a competent skater
to keep up safely. If in doubt, why not see those nice people from
Skate Patrol and ask them what they think? You'll find them by the
boathouses on Serpentine Road from 1pm on Sundays.

We also took more than 200 photos and a rather lovely video, all of
which are online and can be seen by clicking this link:

==SAFER BRAKING==

On the subject of safer skating, less experienced skaters might be
interested in a £5 drop-in clinic that skateinstructor.com is running
on Saturday 7th June at midday. This is specifically designed to
improve heel braking, particularly down hills. Details at:

http://skateinstructor.com/2008/06/5-dropin-clinic-heel-brake-sto.html

WoW doesn't recommend any particular skate schools.

==CONGRATULATIONS==

All of us Week On Wheelers would like to congratulate Natasha and
PeterC, who have finally decided to do the decent thing and marry
eachother. No date yet but when it happens, it will be the skate
social event of the year.

Both Natasha and Peter are regular marshals and keen competitors in
skate races. It's good to see news of a marshal wedding that won't
immediately be followed by a marshal retiring to spend more time with
their family.

==CAUTION, LOW FLYING AIRCRAFT==

This Saturday sees the return of the Red Bull Flug Tag to the
Serpentine. Good news for the 50,000 or so who have tickets, but there
is no entry on the day, and it's rather less good news for skaters who
have lost access to the Beach for the duration. We recommend that you
don't plan on skating in Hyde Park this Saturday.

== HARDER ... FASTER ... MORE ==

As mentioned above, last Friday's skate was a little brisker than it
has been recently. You might also have noticed that it was a fair bit
smaller by the end than it was at the beginning - at least, you might
have if you were still there at the end.

This is a direct response to recent feedback which has encouraged us
to reclaim our reputation as the fastest streetskate in the UK. We're
going to continue doing our best to keep things lively, so please
remember:

- If you can't keep up with the speed of the pack, the back marshal
will ask you to leave. Please don't be offended. Most skaters didn't
complete the LFNS on their first time out. If it happens to you, go
off and practice and try again next week.

- If the London Friday Night Skate is too fast for you, the slightly
slower Wednesday Night Skate organised by LondonSkate.com could be
more suitable, and you'll certainly find our Sunday Stroll more genteel.

- The speed of the LFNS is faster after the half-time break. If you
are struggling in the first half, consider leaving at half
time. That way you'll leave on a high. The first time that you do
get to the very end, let us know and we'll print your name so that you
can boast to all your friends about it.

==HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BATTERSEA PARK==

Battersea Park is 150 years old and will be celebrating on Saturday,
14 June. There'll be freestyle skating competitions and demos. More
details next week.

==ONE WAY STROLLS==

If you liked the One Way Stroll and would like to go on another, the
next is planned for 22 June and will be travelling to Richmond. Put it
in your diaries now.

==WE'll BE BACK==

Unlike the One Way Stroll, WoW will be around every week. If you don't
want to receive it any more, you could unsubscribe using the link at
the end - right at the bottom after the copyright notice.

Don't reply to this email - it will bounce. Use the feedback form on
our site instead.
