== THIS WEEK ==
BENNY HILL: No it's not a little known alternative to Pentonville
Road. The LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE commemorates 16 years since Benny
Hill died. In his memory we shall zigzag like mad through London,
running after the person at the front. You know the Dress Code, ok?
The soundtrack will be a new Crimes Against Music mix, including
Yackety Sax, the theme tune to every Benny Hill chase scene,
ever. You'll know it when you hear it.

This week's SUNDAY STROLL will follow in the footsteps of Friday's
Benny Hill skate (look out for discarded items of clothing!), going to
Waterloo and, in contrast to Napoleon, coming back from it (he never
really came back, no?). Waterloo might also feature in the
soundtrack. Consider yourself warned.

== LAST WEEK ==
Your correspondent wasn't around for the LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE. He
was negotiating the bumps and drops on the Alps, bouncing around at
high speed, frequently about to lose control while praying that the
rain would hold off.
Apparently, he could have stayed in London and had much the same
experience without having to pay for a lift pass. Congratulations to
all who were still standing at the end.
ROLLERS RUN OFF: For those of you following the arguments about why
Paris has roller-cops and London doesn't, this Sunday saw another
reason why runners so often have the edge on skaters in our fine
City. While the Marathon throng kept on jogging, we had to crawl away
and cry in the face of another wet Sunday. (But it rained in Paris as
well, if that's any consolation.)
== ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST ==
A few weeks ago we announced the wedding of marshal Kingsley. But no
sooner has the excitement subsided than David Pope returns from Brazil
with his new bride, Ana. They actually did all the legal stuff in
London but David has wisely decided to spend the rainy season in sunny
Salvador which offers better party opportunities than the average
London Registry Office. Those who missed the wild Brazilian
celebrations are welcome to buy him a beer now.
== DAY AT THE RACES ==
If you'd rather go faster than the Stroll this Sunday, head up to the
track at Tatem Park in Enfield, where the LondonSkaters Speed Team
will be hosting the first outdoor race of the year. FISS-registered
racers are split into categories and compete over distances between
300m and 5km, but for the rest of us there are "RAT" races (turn up
and go: cost in region of £3, expect two races of probably about 3-4
laps length), or there's spectating. You can also meet LSST members
(not all of them scary) and pick up tips, and if you're thinking about
buying speedskates it's an opportunity to try on other people's and
see what brands fit your feet best.
If all that didn't convince you, obviously we need to add that Sol's
chocolate brownies will be on sale. The day starts at 11 with races
from 12. Bring a lid (and wrist protection if under 13) if you're
planning on skating - that's an insurance requirement. Bring Sunday
papers otherwise - that's not an insurance requirement, just a
suggestion.

== KEYS TO SKATING HEAVEN ==
Tired of rainy Fridays? Trying to find a way to take advantage of the
weak dollar? Perhaps you should be considering a weekend break in
Florida. More specifically, the Florida Keys. There are about 1700
islands in the Florida Keys but we recommend Key West, the westernmost
of the inhabited islands and one-time home to Ernest Hemingway. The
township (also called Key West, just to confuse you) offers some
excellent skating opportunities. Traffic is slow and the town is bike
and skate-friendly. This makes skating a great way to get round the
place and see all that there is to see.
For those not comfortable even in slow moving traffic, there is an
excellent bike path that runs along the southern coast of the island
where you can enjoy the turquoise sea. For those who want a longer
skate, there are many miles of bike track that runs along the the main
road on the other islands.
== THE SMALL PRINT ==
LFNS is not bonded with ABTA, and trips to Florida (just like the
skates themselves) are at your own risk. A helmet is recommended on
the skate and is practically essential if you are visiting the US.
